Shahastra is a multifaceted artist — teacher, author/illustrator, designer and painter — living in Ojai, California. Shahastra has taught art both publically and privately, and also co–founded a small creative school in Ojai in the 1980’s.
Integrating her visual and writing talents, Shahastra authored, illustrated and published the “Magical Rainbow” series of children’s books based on color and positive heroes.
Shahastra’s symbolic designs were employed in her own handmade sterling jewelry company. She also was the designer of her co–owned sculptured ironworks company “Event Art,” which was commissioned by 5–star hotels nationally. Presently, she designs for her collaborative company, “ZS Creations.”
As a fine artist, Shahastra’s work can be found in numerous private collections. Her vibrant pastel landscape series won her many commissions, including the Ojai Film Festival. Her figurative soul studies have been published into a 50–card reflection deck called “Meeting the Self.” Presently, she is painting a comtemporary series of acrylics on canvas addressing the illusive quality of interior landscapes using color and light.
As a tribute to nature, Shahastra collaborated on an experiential art installation called, “The Walk,” a one–hour journey integrating art, nature and spirit, which thousands of visitors took, over its run of 10 years in Ojai.
